The world of relief sculpture was change forever by the Florentine Masters by the simple inclusion of perspective. Pictorial relief reached new level never achieved before this invention by the Florentine Masters such as Donatello, Ghiberti, Della Robbia, Verrocchio, as well as many others. Today it remains alone in its use four types of relief alto, mezzo, basso and schiacciato.  Together in composition they create a harmony of “visual voices” that still speak to us today. In this studio course students will discover all four types of relief both together and alone and to how utilize the relief this still revolutionary art form for today’s artist.
